Poha (also known as Flattened Rice) is a savory dish that is actually very easy to make and is also scrumptious dish, can be considered as a filling breakfast or kind of snack. The origin of Poha is Maharashtra in Western India. It is basically a fluffy snack which is light for stomach and is seasoned with onions, potatoes, and many spices.

For loosing weight, many people consider including poha into their daily diet. One of the most wholesome breakfasts you can ever find is Madhvik Poha. Due to its rich taste, and gluten free quality along with good source of carbohydrates, Poha must be tried by those who think that a weight loss diet is all about feeling drained.

Due to its high fiber content, poha is extremely light dish that is easy to digest. Bloating and other digestive problems will not happen if you eat poha for breakfast. For proper development,our body needs Iron and poha is laden with iron. Our body gets 76.9 percent of natural carbohydrates and up to 23 percent of natural fats from poha. Therefore, to get lots of energy include poha as a breakfast.

However, too much consumption of poha might lead to unwanted weight gain as it contains carbs and fats so it’s recommended to have it in moderation. Nutritional benefits of poha help to control blood sugar spikes and it is extremely helpful for diabetic people. Along with this, poha’s benefits for skin cannot be ignored. In the preparation of poha, usually peanuts are included as they are an active source of antioxidants which can protect the skin from oxidative stress damage and skin wrinkles.

Recipe to cook Madhvik Poha:

  • Take up poha flakes and put in a strainer to wash. Rinse properly and keep the strainer aside to let the flakes soften.
  • After a few minutes press the flakes in between your thumb and finger to test its softness and that it breaks easily.
  • Heat a pan and pour oil and fry the peanuts on a medium heat until it turns golden and crunchy.
  • Remove the peanuts in a plate and set aside.
  • To the same pan, now add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When they begin to pop add Hing, onion, curry leaves and green chillies.
  • Sauté until the onion turns slightly pink. If you wish you may also add Potato cubes. Now sauté well.
  • Add Madhvik turmeric and Madhvik Poha to the pan, Madhvik black salt and sugar to taste and then mix well and cover the pan.
  • Cook on a very low heat until it turns hot. Turn off the heat.
  • Garnish Poha with coriander leaves and roasted peanuts. You may also top it with Sev or fresh grated coconut.
